Welcome to The Wanganui Club, a historic establishment that embraces both tradition and diversity. Originally an exclusive gentlemen's club, we now proudly boast a membership that includes prominent Whanganui businessmen and women. Our grand Edwardian-style Heritage House, adorned with ornate plaster ceilings and native timber, serves as a captivating backdrop to our vibrant community. We welcome new members.

Our History

The first premises were in Victoria Avenue, however, in 1915 a purpose-built grand club building was opened in St Hill Street in the Edwardian style.

Now known as Heritage house, entrance is through a large elegant foyer complete with an impressive grand staircase to the upper level which once housed accommodation for visiting farmers and staff quarters as well as several staterooms overlooking the portico.

Inside the club there are ornate plaster ceilings, extensive use of native timber and open brick fireplaces which are lit throughout winter.
